Rules and Regulations

II. ENLISTMENT
REQUIREMENTS
A. All
persons wishing to join the SPHRS, Inc as a uniformed
member of the 49th NC must be 16 years of age and
sponsored by another member. No person under the
age of 16 may participate with the SPHRS, Inc. unless
accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or unless he
has written permission from the parent or legal guardian
along with a participating adult (21 or older) of the
SPHRS acting as guardian.
B. The
bearing of firearms is restricted to members 15 years
old or older for battle parade demonstrations and then
only after passing a safety inspection by a member of
the military staff. No member, musician, color
guard or otherwise, under the age of 15 will be
permitted to carry any type of firearm in a battle
reenactment, parade, or any other formation that will
include the discharge or a weapon. Members under
the age of 15 who are not functioning musicians are to
be assigned as Hospital Stewards or Couriers and are
responsible to the Medical Officer, Chaplain, Commanding
Officer or any person designated by the Commanding
Officer. Members under the age of 10 should be
dressed in civilian clothing.
C. The
Medical Data Sheet must submitted with dues and needs to
be updated with the Medical Officer on a regular basis.
D. The
completed application must be approved by the SPHRS
Board of Directors. Normally, it is submitted at
the next board meeting.
III. PROMOTIONS
A. All
Commissioned Field Officers and the First Sergeant are
by election of the general membership. The other
Non-Commissioned Officers are selected by competitive
examination. Examinations will be held if
increased manpower levels mandate the addition of new
NCOs, or if vacancies occur among previously
commissioned
NCOs. A minimum of twelve months experience as a
private is required along with participating in a unit
sponsored NCO Exam before becoming a NCO candidate.
B. All
Lieutenants and Sergeants (below 2nd Sgt.) must carry
with them a private's impression and be willing to "fall
in the ranks" at an event when the Commanding Officers
adjudges the numbers do not justify their use.
IV. ADMINISTRATION
A. You
will be assigned to an administrative company whose
primary function is to ease overall unit control and to
facilitate communication among the membership.
B.
Companies will be formed based upon manpower levels and
shall be based as much as possible on the geographic
locations of the original 49th NC companies portrayed.
C. It
shall be the responsibility of each member to contact
the adjutant when registration for an event is required.
A member is only considered registered when the Adjutant
receives your money. If, at a later date, after
registration, any member wish to attend the event then
that member will have to register on his own.
V. SAFETY
A.
Sidearm' shall be worn only by officers and sergeants.
B. No
weapon may be fired in camp unless permission from the
military staff is given.
C. All
muskets and sidearms will be of military construction.
D.
Muskets or pistols are to be loaded with approved paper
cartridges only.
NO
WADDING OR MATERIAL OTHER THAN BLACK POWDER IS TO BE
PLACED DOWN THE MUZZLE OF ANY WEAPON DURING A
REENACTMENT
E.
Bayonets must be sheathed at all times unless otherwise
ordered by the Commanding Officer.
F.
Side knives are to be used in camp and kept in a
knapsack or blanket roll, but should not be carried out
on the field unconcealed.
G.
Hand-to-hand combat is prohibited unless pre-arranged.
H. Officers
and file closers will check all casualties to insure
that no injury has been sustained. If there is a
real emergency and you need help use the term "MEDIC!"
and it will alert other to a real injury or emergency.
I.
Each member will clean his musket prior to each event.
VI. CAMP LIFE & EVENT
REGULATIONS
A.
While participating with the SPHRS members will conduct
themselves in a military manner.
B.
Unmarried female members of the unit will have a special
designated area for sleeping quarters.
C. The
Society has several tents that they will provide to new
members on a first come, first serve basis.
D. On
arrival at camp, all members should dress in proper
period clothing as soon as possible and should not wear
modern clothing during the event. Coats must be
worn with at least the top button fastened and shoes are
to be worn at all formations unless otherwise ordered by
the Commanding Officer. No uniform or part of a
uniform may be worn in any manner at any time which may
bring disrespect to the SPHRS.
E. All
clothing must conform to regimental standards.
Check the appropriate Uniform Requirements or with the
Quarter Master Sergeant. The Commanding Officer has
the duty to see that this is enforced.
F.
Those who smoke cigarettes will either break the filters
off, use filterless cigarettes, smoke cigars, pipes or
chew tobacco. Smoking in the ranks is not
permitted unless allowed by the Commanding Officer.
G.
Authentic, period looking eyeglasses are to be worn at
all events.
H. All
modern liquid refreshments must be consumed in period
containers. If you bring any modern type items
they must be hidden from sight.
VII. DISCIPLINE
A.
Repeated failure to participate in required formations,
fatigue duties and other necessary activities without
excuse from an officer may result in termination of your
membership.
B.
Aggressive, obnoxious and boisterous behavior while
under the influence of alcohol or for any reason is
grounds for expulsion from the SPHRS.
C.
Dispensing alcohol to those below the legal drinking age
is grounds for expulsion.
D.
Possession, consumption or distribution of any illegal
drugs or controlled substances is grounds for expulsion.
E.
Proven theft from any member of the SPHRS or from any
other reenactment unit is grounds for expulsion.
F.
Rude, unseemly or obnoxious behavior toward any members
of the female sex or any children is grounds for
expulsion.
